300 Houston Street:
A 54,000 square foot mixed-use development, including a 15,000 square foot Walgreens drug store, as well as shell space for Nix Hospital corporate offices. The work involved demolishing both the old Walgreen’s building and its neighbor, the Stuart Building, which once housed Stuart Department Store. The limits of construction were very constrained in this downtown site and the materials laydown area consisted of one closed traffic lane. Extreme care had to be taken in shoring up the adjacent historic properties during the demolition and reconstruction process. The new Walgreens building was designed and reconstructed to compliment the former structure and surrounding historic buildings. Design by Douglas Architects, Inc.
